Capital Athletic League Championship Shows Off Local High School Talent – Jason McElroy, Param Sodhi & Ryan Calcagno (& Rio Americano) Lead The Way With Low Scores

On Monday afternoon, May 3rd on the Alister MacKenzie Golf Course at Haggin Oaks under beautiful spring skies, the Capital Athletic League Championship was held and showcased some amazing local golf talent with local high school boys.  Casa Roble, Christian Brothers, El Camino, Mira Loma, Rio Americano, Vista del Lago were all teams represented in the event.

In March, the revamped youth sports guidelines, saying outdoor sports could resume once a county’s rate of cases per 100,000 residents dropped below 14. Sacramento’s rate hit 12.0 in an update released by the state that same month. That cleared the way for boys and girls golf to resume and get in an abbreviated season.

Rio Americano Senior Jason McElroy, a multi-time winner on the First Tee of Greater Sacramento, took home individual honors with a one-over-par score of 73. Vista del Lago’s Param Sodhi and Rio Americano’s Ryan Calcagno tied for second place with four over par 76’s. Vista’s Reese Sato and Rio’s Tristan Sutherland finished tied for fourth at 5 over 77 and Rio’s Andrew Sutherland was another two strokes back at 79.

In the team competition, Rio American took home honors with a stellar team score of 385. Vista finished in second place at 407 and Christian Brothers were third at 434.
