Sacramento State Men’s Golf Team Wins Big Sky Championship
Sacramento State claimed its fourth Big Sky Men’s Golf Championship team title in school history and led wire-to-wire en route to a 19-stroke victory on Tuesday at Boulder Creek Golf Club. The Hornets shot 299-285-280-884 to finish even par for the tournament and earn an automatic bid to an NCAA Regional
Karen Garcia Takes First Place in the WGANC Legacy Tournament
Karen Garcia, winner of the 2015 U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur, took home another top prize. Garcia shot rounds of 72-76 to come in at 4-over 148 and win the annual WGANC Legacy Champion of Champions by four shots over runner-up Lynne Cowan.
Hutchison named BWC Golfer of the Month
A stellar finish to the 2020-21 regular season earned UC Davis junior Thomas Hutchison Big West Conference Golfer of the Month honors for April, the league office announced on this week.
It’s the second such accolade the San Jose native has received from the Big West office, but his first since winning the award back in September of 2018.
Hutchison finished the season a combined 8-under par in the two events, finishing tied for 28th at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic, where UCD finished in a tie for sixth out of 23 teams, before ending the Aggies’ own El Macero Classic in a tie for fourth while helping his team to the tournament title. The second-highest Big West individual finisher at the Cowboy Classic, Hutchison finished with a 1-under 215 out of a field of 120 golfers, while his tie for fourth at the El Macero Classic was his best finish since a runner-up finish at the 2019 Big West Championships.
He has played each of his last six rounds at par or better, including his second and third rounds in the 60s this season with a 69 and a season-low 68 to finish off the team win at El Macero. That victory was the program’s third title at their own tournament, their first win since The Goodwin in 2016 and the program’s 41st victory overall since 1993.
UC Davis returns to the course in Southern California for the 2021 Big West Conference Men’s Golf Championships on May 2 through 4 at the La Quinta Country Club in La Quinta. The Aggies have won three conference titles since joining the league, taking home the trophy in 2009, 2011 and 2012.
