Grizzlies Place Sixth at CIF State Championship!

Granite Bay & Rocklin High Represent the Greater Sacramento Area at CIF State Championship for Boys’ Golf

The 2023 CIF State Championship for Boys’ High School Golf was held on May 31 at Poppy Hills Golf Course, located in Pebble Beach. The Granite Bay Grizzly team was able to secure sixth place. They achieved a team score of 373, placing just behind Tesoro High. The ultimate state championship title was claimed by De La Salle High, who shot a remarkable nine-under-par, 346. Leading the way for Granite Bay High was junior Sam Lyons. Sam completed a round of 73 with three birdies, finishing at two over par.

Contributing to the team’s performance, Eddie David and Garrett Harrison both shot 74, with Harrison securing four birdies during the day. Ryan Atkinson achieved a score of 75 and Tyler Williams recorded a 77. Sohom Patel rounded out the Grizzlies’ performance with a round of 81.

Reflecting on their achievement, Harrison expressed their delight, stating, “It was very special and a very amazing accomplishment for our group of guys to make it to state. Our goal at the start of the season was to be one of the best teams in the state and we showed that by making it all the way to compete with the best. I can’t wait for next year to continue to play with my guys and try to go back to state again.”

Rocklin High Golf also had two participants in the tournament: senior Luke Price, who scored 76, and Josh Leiker, who recorded an 81. The individual state championship title was won by Luke Powell, from Capistrano Valley Christian, who had a stellar performance shooting seven-under-par, 64.
