William Land Golf Course Field Day Returns April 25, 2018

What is the William Land Golf Course Field Day?

The golf industry is known for providing resources to charities that exceed all other sports. That’s right! The sport of golf contributes more to local charity communities than football, baseball, basketball and all other sports combined. Locally, there is a golf course that was built in 1927 that receives a major gift each year from Sacramento area members of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA). The William Land Golf Course has an agreement with the City of Sacramento to manage and operate the 9-hole golf course for the development of youth through the game of golf. GCSAA members and vendors throughout the Sacramento region bring staff and equipment each year, near the end of April, free of charge, to aerate greens, tees and fairways. They volunteer their time to help keep this golf facility healthy. They also top-dress and over-seed the greens and tees and perform other spring agronomy practices – all in one day. This is a huge gift (estimated to be valued between $40,000 and $50,000 per year) that helps reduce the overhead and expenses of the William Land Golf Course. This allows additional funds and resources to be used for youth development programs.

The William Land Field Day has been in existence for more than 15 years which means the gift to WLGC, The First Tee of Greater Sacramento and the junior programs is cumulatively in excess of $500,000. In Sacramento, the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America more than follow and live by their mission statement:

“The GCSAA is dedicated to serving its members, advancing their profession, and enhancing the enjoyment, growth and vitality of the game of golf.”

This year, the William Land Golf Course Field Day is planned for Wednesday, April 25, 2018. During this time, the golf course will be closed to allow the volunteers from GCSAA to perform their maintenance and work for the facility.

The First Tee of Greater Sacramento and Morton Golf cannot thank the GCSAA enough for their generosity towards enhancing the enjoyment, growth and vitality of the game of golf through their personal commitments to the “Annual Field Day” at the William Land Golf Course.

The William Land Golf Course is located at 1701 Sutterville Road in Sacramento, CA. Click www.WilliamLandGC.com more more information on the golf course.
