September 11 & 12, 2021

Over two beautiful late-summer days on the Alister MacKenzie GC at Haggin Oaks this last weekend, Northern California showed off its incredible junior golfing prowess with low scores during the Northern California Junior Golf Tour’s Fall Series Tournament in Sacramento, CA.

The NCGA Junior Tour was founded in 2008 and grew rapidly from eight tournaments to sixteen by 2010, while the NCPGA’s Junior Tour conducted eight tournaments during its inaugural year in 2010.

Beginning in 2011, the Junior Tour of Northern California was established by combining the resources of the NCGA and the NCPGA’s Junior Tours, in order to create a single tour where junior golfers could compete against the best players for an affordable price.

This partnership proved extremely successful, and the number of tournaments increased to seventeen. The quality of these tournaments has been recognized by the American Junior Golf Association by awarding performance-based entry status to the winners of all Boys and Girls Championship flights.

Zach Pollo of Rocklin (playing on the Whitney HS team) continued his torrid stretch of play this summer, running away with the boy’s division with back-to-back scores of 65 to win by eight strokes over Edan Cui of Atherton.

Pollo, who plays out of Catta Verdera Country Club in Lincoln and Whitney Oaks Golf Club, picked up two wins during the Junior Tour of Northern California’s 2020-21 season. He also won the boys division of the American Junior Golf Association Junior Open at The Bridges Presented by the City of Montrose in Colorado in early August.

He set an AJGA 18-hole record with an 11-under-par 60 during the second round of the tournament at The Bridges Golf & Country Club.

In Junior Golf Association Northern California tournaments, Cui has eight wins in 21 starts since 2014, including winning the Baylands (Palo Alto) Junior Championship (ages 12 to 18) at the end of July last year.

He opened the two-round tournament with a 3-under 69 and came back the next day with a matching score of 69 to finish at 6-under 138, another shot ahead of third-place finisher Jack Jerge.

On the girl’s side, Breanna Preap of Bear Creek High School in Stockton, CA took home the honors with a stellar two-round score of four under par 140 to win by three strokes over another Rocklin resident, Lexi Booras, who finished at one under.

Preap, a 4.0+ student has seen an incredible rise in her golf skill, quickly lowering her scores into red ones over the course of the summer as she looks to take her next steps in her high school golf career and beyond.
