This past weekend, the Northern California golf scene witnessed history in the making. Sacramento’s own Taylor Baker delivered a performance for the ages at the 55th Sacramento County Women’s Golf Championship, held July 26–27 at Mather Golf Course.
After opening with a solid 3-under-par 69, Baker came out firing in Sunday’s final round—carding an unbelievable 62, breaking the women’s course record at Mather in the process. Her two-day total of 131 (69-62) earned her the Championship Flight title and put her name among the most dominant champions in the tournament’s five-decade history.
“This was one of the most impressive performances we’ve seen in the history of this event,” said Tournament Chair Deborah Kanner. “Taylor’s round on Sunday was nothing short of historic. She showed poise, precision, and pure passion for the game.”
The annual amateur event, hosted by the Sacramento Golf Council, brings together top female talent from across Northern California—but Baker stole the show.
A Star on the Rise
Baker, a recent graduate of Rio Americano High School, has quickly become one of the region’s most talked-about young golfers. She made headlines last year by becoming the first Rio Americano player to win the CIF Individual NorCal Championship, and has continued her momentum with strong performances on the national stage.
Her growing list of accolades includes:
- 3rd place finish at the IMG Academy Junior World Championship (70-67-70)
- Quarterfinalist at the Women’s Western Junior
- Advanced to the Round of 64 at the U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship
Locally, she dominated the high school circuit—breaking every women’s golf record at Rio Americano. She was named Team MVP and earned All-League honors all four years. Off the course, she impressed just as much—graduating with a 4.0 GPA.
What’s Next for Taylor?
Baker is set to continue her golf journey this fall at Cal Poly, where she’ll join the Mustangs women’s golf team while majoring in business. With her name now etched in the Mather Golf Course record books and a championship trophy in hand, Taylor Baker’s future is bright. From Sacramento fairways to college competition and beyond, we’ll be keeping a close eye on this rising star.
