Ryder Cup Captains Tee Off Chicago High Rise for Charity

On Monday, September 26th, 2011, U.S. Ryder Cup Captain Davis Love III and European Ryder Cup Captain José María Olazábal teed off from the 16th floor terrace of the Trump International Hotel and Tower in Chicago to celebrate the “year out mark” of the 2012 Ryder Cup. Each Captain had three 220-yard shots aimed at the floating golf green set out in the Chicago River. The green was modeled after the actual 17th hole at Medinah.

Love III and Olazábal performed the stunt in order to raise money to benefit the Illinois PGA Foundation and the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana. Though they both failed to ace the hole, it was all for a good cause. “The PGA of America in conjunction with the Ryder Cup Magnificent Moments fundraising campaign [donated] $100,000”.

Mark your calendars – the 2012 Ryder Cup is scheduled September 25-30, 2012 at the Medinah Country Club near Chicago.
