Senior Championship Flight – Morgan closes with authority

Shingle Springs’ Mark Morgan backed up an opening-round 67 with a composed 69 to finish at 8-under-par 136, four clear of the field. Morgan surged ahead on the inward nine, stuffing wedges to tap-in range on Nos. 15 and 17 to erase any doubt.

Mark Morgan – Senior Champion

Overnight leader Steve Sear (Washoe Valley) could not keep pace, following Tuesday’s 66 with a 75 to slip to fourth at 141 (-3). The day’s biggest climb belonged to Mike Stieler (Fairfield), whose sparkling 68 vaulted him into a share of second at 140 (-4) alongside Rancho Murieta’s Kevin Stillian.

Super Senior Championship Flight – Niger’s twin 69s seal the deal

Consistency proved king for Bob Niger of Roseville. A second straight 69 gave him a 6-under 138 total and a two-shot victory. Niger began the day two behind first-round leader Brady Donoghue, but four birdies in his opening seven holes flipped the script.

Bob Niger – Super Senior Champion

Monterey’s Casey Boyns posted matching 70s for sole second at 140 (-4), while Donoghue (67-74—141) and Peoria, Ariz.’s Howie Knodt (72-69—141) tied third at 3-under. Five players finished under par, underscoring the division’s depth.

Legends Championship Flight – Jensen and Fleming share title after tense finish – Jensen wins in a playoff

What began as a three-way tie ended as a two-man duel. Carmichael’s Herb Jensen and Fair Oaks’ Bob Fleming each followed opening 71s with even-par 72s, finishing co-leaders at 1-under 143. Tournament officials took them to a sudden death playoff hole where Jensen’s par beat Fleming’s bogey in their first playoff hole.

Herb Jensen – Legends Champion

Antelope’s Bob Cook recorded the round of the day—a blistering 70—to claim solo third at 145 (+1), leap-frogging five spots on the board.

With the trophies hoisted and another chapter written on Haggin Oaks’ storied fairways, the Sacramento Valley Senior Amateur once again proved that experience—and a hot putter—can still tame the MacKenzie’s timeless design.

History and Legacy at Haggin Oaks

The Alister MacKenzie Golf Course at Haggin Oaks, host to this prestigious championship, is one of Northern California’s most storied layouts. Designed in 1932 by legendary architect Dr. Alister Mackenzie—whose other masterpieces include Augusta National and Cypress Point—the course blends strategic bunkering, walkable routing, and classic risk-reward challenges that continue to test the game’s best amateurs. The tournament itself is proudly conducted by the Sacramento Golf Council, a volunteer-based organization with a mission to promote amateur golf in the region. For decades, the Council has played a vital role in growing the game through high-quality events for juniors, men, women, and seniors alike—cementing Sacramento’s reputation as one of California’s great golf communities.
