10:09am – We heard that Marc King, the President of TaylorMade Golf, was on the Golf Channel this morning talking about FootGolf and Haggin Oaks. What is FootGolf? FootGolf is a combination of the popular sports of soccer and golf. The game is played with a regulation #5 soccer ball at a golf course facility on shortened holes with 21-inch diameter cups. The rules largely correspond to the rules of golf. FootGolf as a game is played throughout the world in many different forms, but as a sport it is regulated by the Federation for International FootGolf (FIFG). The American FootGolf League (AFGL) is the exclusive member of the FIFG and governing body for the sport of FootGolf in the United States. The AFGL is organizing tournaments throughout the U.S. and working with golf courses to bring FootGolf to their clubs as another avenue for revenue and to develop the game further. We introduced FootGolf at Haggin Oaks in the summer of 2013 and it has been wildly popular. Learn more: http://www.hagginoaks.com/footgolf/

Be sure and let us know if there are any home golf simulators on display. In the process of building my own and leaning toward optishot but E6 looks very nice just out of my price range.

All things considered, I would much rather be at the PGA show. Four days discussing my passion for golf and trying out the latest toys…or waking up to 4 degree temps and 30 mph winds in the Midwest. You tell me what sounds like more fun, LOL

The range at Orange County National is amazing! The circular practice area is on 42 acres and has room for 600 hitting stations. No chance to send one thru the range!

I was wondering if Griffey Jr. crushes the ball like he did a baseball. I saw George Brett in a Pro-Am a few years ago and he was able to out-drive his playing partners by quite a distance.

I will be following for sure… Who is going to have the most posts this year?? I can’t wait to see this year’s “Rock” of the show, that must have new item you will be bringing back to the shop. I know you will have a bunch of laughs and memorable moments. Miss you all, continue to build on all the great things that each one of you bring to the team and have a great show!!!

Is the Tank really a scene stealer in person? Callaway will have to see if it can shoot apples to add to the physics lessons for the new Big Bertha. It seems to have taken on a life of it’s own on Facebook and Twitter.

There are several things I’m anxious to see. One glove that fits all sizes? The new Footjoy shoes look awesome. And of course, that Big Bertha driver needs to reside in MY bag!

The cool thing about the tank is that, When I play, I feel like I am shooting boogies down from the sky like the Air Force and the then the tank would come with the Calvary

My take on the collar logo….much prefer the sleeve or back….looks classier and if for some reason you need a sport coat over the shirt,no collar Logo much neater look.

You guys and girls look like you’re having a terrific time. Wish I was able to attend this year, but I am going to try and get down to Sacramento for the Haggin Oaks Outdoor Show. Say Hi to Annika for me. I attended her Academy in 2007 and continue to stay in touch when I am in the area.
So far the Callaway group has my vote going back to Big Bertha..Patrick Reed seems to like it!

Branding on the shirt collar sounds like a great idea for the manufacturers cause it stands out so well but not sure about a benefit for the buyer. Durability concerns, maybe? Technology in this industry boggles the mind! Cool show.

I’m always willing to try a new ball e.g. the new Callaway SR-Speed Regine, at least comparing it against my two favorites the Titleist Velocity & Bridgestone e6. Let the comparisons begin.
    How long off the tee?
Will it easily draw or fade with an iron or hybrid?
Will it stop on a dime for fly off the back of the green on the ole approach shot?
Finally, how far will a horribly scuffed example, due to cart path bounces, fly with into the water hazard with a 9 iron?
Comparisons for and by a Hacker. LOL

I have reached my senior years, turn 70 in April, and as I get older I get a little weaker. I’d kill for an extra 10 yards of distance. I am presently playing to a 10 handicap and I’m still able to break 80 several times a year. Are there clubs made with us old guys in mind and is there a ball that works best? I am always switching back and forth to find just the right one but there are so many to choose from. Any suggestions

    • Bill D says: | Reply

      Hi Bobby,

There are lots of great, game improvement clubs from most every club company. The best way to determine what is right for you is to demo the different models and then have a proper club fitting. If you are in our area, we would love to help you with that. There are also lots of new golf balls coming out this year too…one that you may want to try is the new SR Ball from Callaway. There are three different models that are geared to perform best depending on your swing speed…may help you find the extra distance your looking for.

What a “great” show. Looks like everyone is making the most of their trip and learning lots to bring home to H.O. Awesome pics too!!!! Tell me, is the Heaven Golf show made for men AND women?? Also, do NOT like the “FJ” branding (or any branding) on the collar of the golf shirt – way to big and bold. They should know that “less is “more!!”

      Hi Barbara,
Yes, the Heaven Shoe comes in mens and womens sizes. They may come to our Golf Expo at Haggin Oaks in April.

From a guy in COLD, SNOWY Ohio who can’t play for 3 or so months yet….you’ve truly made my wait to get out there and play easier to take, and because of Morton Golf, I’m better equipped to make product choices in the near future. Thank You very much.

From the other postings in this section, that could just be a daily occurrence at Haggin Oaks though. How I would love to leave the cold and wind in the Midwest and enjoy golf in the California sun this week.

I’ve been a Callaway fan all my life but could never afford to buy a new set of the clubs, I settled for a gift of custom made clubs knock offs from my boss when I was 20 years old. My first set of Callaway’s were used X12 with Big Bertha Driver and 3, I played with them for 12 years and I’m now playing on my second set, Diablo Edge Irons and Tour Edge Black Driver. My game has drastically improved and could only get better with that brand spanking new Big Bertha Driver… Thank you Morton Golf!!!

I wish Loudmouth would make those grips with the rocky top print they have for pants. I would be all over those. I also love the bike idea. What’s the price on that?

    • Bill D. says: | Reply

      Hi Brian,
Their idea is to sell them to golf courses as an option for golfers to rent. (Like a push or power cart…) They were not inexpensive… $1000.00 plus depending on the model.

  75. Steve Crandall says: | Reply

I realize that courses are always looking for ways to maximize revenues, but I have to say I’m not a fan of the idea of FootGolf. You won’t find me in the middle of a soccer pitch working on my wedge shots. Why are soccer players running around in the middle of the golf course? Might as well start setting up bowling pins on the cart paths…

  76. Steve Crandall says: | Reply

I do find the idea of the golf bike intriguing. It certainly allows for speeding up the pace of play like a cart while retaining some of the benefits of walking, but I wouldn’t want to try to ride it in the grass on a soggy day.

Change comes slowly to institutions that have been around for a very long time. But golf changes should be considered. More family friendly. Cost reductions. These are just a few evaluations that are needed. One idea would be to build 3 hole areas, with multiple tees, that will allow families to play together and for a shorter period of time.

The Big Bertha Driver features adjustable perimeter weighting, new advanced adjustable hosel technology, and a new high strength, lightweight crown that weighs only 8 grams.

Wow, again, everything I read sounds like my sex life, not a contest, as my Big Bertha features lots of perimeter weight, adjustable hosel technology (figure that one out), and she wears a new high strength, lightweight crown that hides 8 grams of something for our night together.

Last one, this makes three, in honor of the grand prize :

A young man named Callaway who was an avid golfer found himself with a few hours to spare one afternoon. He figured if he hurried and played very fast, he could get in nine holes before he had to head home. Just as he was about to tee off a lady who went by the name of Big Bertha shuffled onto the tee and asked if she could accompany the young man as he was golfing alone. Not being able to say no, he allowed the lady to join him.

To his surprise the lady played fairly quickly and was one serious long driver. She also played consistently and didn’t waste much time. Finally, they reached the 9th fairway and the young man found himself with a tough shot. There was a large pine tree right in front of his ball – and directly between his ball and the green.

After several minutes of debating how to hit the shot Big Bertha finally said, “You know, when I was your age I’d hit the ball right over that tree.”

With that challenge placed before him, the youngster swung hard, hit the ball up, right smack into the top of the tree trunk and it thudded back on the ground not a foot from where it had originally lay.

Big Bertha offered one more comment, “Of course, when I was your age that pine tree was only three feet tall…plus your club is old news, you really should buy the new Callaway Big Bertha Driver that will be released on February 14, 2014.
