The leaderboard at the 2025 Sacramento Junior Championship Presented by Morton Golf Foundation saw major movement during Saturday’s second round, as both the Boys and Girls Divisions delivered low scores and dramatic shifts at the top. Held at the iconic Alister MacKenzie Golf Course at Haggin Oaks, this AJGA 54-hole event heads into Sunday’s final round with two players firmly establishing themselves as the ones to chase.
Boys Division: Liu Lights It Up

Evan Liu of Rancho Santa Fe, Calif. (Class of 2027), turned up the heat in Round 2, firing a blistering 7-under-par 65 to go along with his opening 66. At 13-under 131, Liu has taken sole possession of the lead, showcasing precision iron play and a steady putting stroke that kept him bogey-free on the day. He is looking for his second AJGA tournament win following his win earlier this year at the K.J. Choi Foundation Junior Championship presented by Overnight Printing Seattle.
Just three shots behind in a tie for second are two players hot on Liu’s heels. First-round co-leader Drew Woolworth (Lake Oswego, OR, 2026) added a 68 to his opening 66 to sit at 10-under 134, joined by Richard Ding of Pleasanton, Calif. (2029), who climbed the leaderboard with a standout 66 of his own.
Ayden Fynaut (Fresno, CA, 2026) vaulted into solo fourth after a dazzling 65, moving him to 9-under 135, while Max Emberson (Thousand Oaks, CA, 2026) made the biggest jump of the day. His 8-under 64, tied for the lowest round of the tournament, rocketed him into a tie for fifth alongside Eli Weidmann (Murphys, CA, 2025), both at 8-under 136.
Tied at 7-under are Joshua Kim (Danville, CA, 2025), Giacomo Gaggero (Meadow Vista, CA, 2025), and Matthew Hull (Corona Del Mar, CA, 2026), setting up a thrilling final round with eight players within six shots of the lead.
Girls Division: Cui Climbs to the Top
In the Girls Division, Victoria Cui of Atherton, Calif. (2028), played her way into the solo lead after following up her first-round 70 with an impressive 5-under 67, bringing her two-day total to 7-under 137. Her back-nine performance, highlighted by birdies at 13, 15, and 17, separated her from the logjam behind her.
Second place belongs to Round 1 co-leader Niuniu Zhao (Woodinville, WA, 2028), who added a solid 71 to her opening 69 to sit at 4-under 140. A crowded tie for third at 3-under 141 features four players: Sacramento’s own Anita Lumpongpoung (2028), Emma Wang (Palo Alto, CA, 2027), Rina Kawasaki (Palos Verdes Estates, CA, 2028), and Amy Seung Hyun Lee (Langley, BC, Canada, 2026), who shot one of the day’s best rounds with a 3-under 69.
Kelly Zhang (Hillsborough, CA, 2030) posted a sparkling 4-under 68, the low round in the Girls Division Tuesday, moving her to 2-under 142 and into solo seventh.
Four players sit tied for eighth at 1-under 143, including Hayley Fong, Nicole Tang, Michelle Ho, and Jessica Jang, all within striking distance of the lead as the field tightens heading into the final day.
Final Round Outlook
With ideal conditions and a tight leaderboard in both divisions, Easter Sunday’s final round promises to deliver a dramatic finish. The Alister MacKenzie layout is proving both scorable and demanding, and with so many juniors under par, the Sacramento Junior Championship is once again living up to its billing as one of Northern California’s premier junior golf showcases.
