The Alister MacKenzie GC at Haggin Oaks was the site today for the last round of the Sacramento Junior Open, hosted by the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour. The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour, the largest junior golf tour in the world, is back for the 2021 season and this is their first stop in the Greater Sacramento region. Established in 2007, this is HJGT’s 14th season will boast over 350+ events and hosts some of the premier junior golfers in the country. Present in 23 states, the tour’s reach will grow across the nation this season with a focus on tournaments offered in five new locations – Louisiana, Iowa, Southern California, Nevada, and Michigan.
The February weather was perfect after a breezy first round and the blistering scores showed it. Elk Grove’s Jayden Lizama posted the lowest overall boys score and took honors in the 11-13 age flight with a two-over par score of 144. In the 14-15 age flight, Menlo Park’s Eric Yun shot a three-over score of 145 and in the 16-18 flight, first-round leader Reese Sato from Folsom finished up at four-over 146 along with Santa Cruz-native Myhles Statsky. San Ramon’s Ben Ragland finished two more strokes back at +6 148. Lincoln’s own Hayden Sanders shot the overall low 18 of the golf tournament with a 3-under-par 69 earlier today.
On the girl’s side, Stockton’s Skylar May posted the lowest overall score of a two-day score of -1 after shooting a two-under score of 70 on the second day of play. She was followed by Kiana Briggs +4 (Novato), Hannah Harrison +5 (Granite Bay), and Kayla Noh +6 (Rocklin). Congratulations to all of the juniors near and far for two wonderful days of golf. The future is bright for many of these local junior golfers.
