Sacramento, CA – April 20, 2025 – Under sunny skies and amidst the towering heritage oaks of the Alister MacKenzie Golf Course at Haggin Oaks, two rising stars of junior golf claimed victory at the 2025 AJGA Sacramento Junior Championship presented by the Morton Golf Foundation. Over three days of elite-level play, Rancho Santa Fe’s Evan Liu and Atherton’s Victoria Cui emerged as champions in a tournament that saw remarkable scoring and several strong performances from local Northern California players.

Boys Division: Liu Fends Off Final Round Charge
In the Boys Division, 17-year-old Evan Liu (2027) from Rancho Santa Fe, Calif., held his nerve with a closing-round 69 to finish at 16-under-par (66-65-69—200) and edge out Oregon’s Drew Woolworth by a single shot. Liu’s relentless consistency and poise under pressure were on full display, particularly during Sunday’s final stretch, where he carded birdies on two of his final four holes to seal the title.
Woolworth, hailing from Lake Oswego, posted a superb 67 in the final round (66-68-67—201), but it wasn’t quite enough to catch Liu. Fresno’s Ayden Fynaut matched Woolworth’s low-round 67 and finished solo third at 14-under (202).
The Greater Sacramento region was proudly represented by Giacomo Gaggero of Meadow Vista, who made a strong Sunday push with a 6-under 66 to finish in solo fourth at -13 (203). Jayden Lizama of Elk Grove also had a solid showing, tying for 13th at 4-under-par (212), while Joshua Kim of Danville and William Chang of Danville placed T5 and T19, respectively.

Girls Division: Cui Cruises to Victory
On the Girls side, 15-year-old Victoria Cui (2028) delivered a masterclass in ball-striking and composure. She fired matching 67s on Saturday and Sunday, capping off a wire-to-wire victory at 12-under-par (70-67-67—204). Her performance included a dazzling 14 birdies over three rounds and a bogey-free final round that kept her comfortably ahead of the field.
Cui’s nearest challenger was Michelle Ho of San Ramon, who closed strong with a 68 to finish seven shots back at 5-under (211). Just one stroke behind her was Jessica Jang of La Canada at 4-under (212), rounding out a tightly contested top three.
Local standout Anita Lumpongpoung of Sacramento showed resilience throughout the week, finishing in a tie for 11th at even par (69-72-75—216). Also from the Sacramento area, Gianna Singh of Elk Grove surged with a final-round 68 to finish T16 at +2 (218), tying with Lily Peng of San Ramon.

A Championship Setting at a Storied Venue
This prestigious event took place on the historic Alister MacKenzie Golf Course at Haggin Oaks, a layout designed by the famed architect behind Augusta National. Known for its strategic bunkering, large undulating greens, and canopy of heritage oaks, the course proved both a challenge and a showcase for some of the finest junior golfers in the country.
