Sacramento State Women’s Golf Wins Third Straight Big Sky Title

The Sacramento State women’s golf team has done it again! With a commanding 15-stroke victory at Wigwam Golf Resort in Litchfield Park, Arizona, the Hornets captured their third consecutive Big Sky Women’s Golf Championship title — joining an elite group in conference history. They are the first to win three straight since Portland State accomplished the feat from 2003–2005, and they’ve now won five of the last six titles.

Strong Performances Across the Board

Leading the charge was senior Caitlin Maurice, who finished second overall at 3-under par (71-68-71-210). Maurice kept the pressure on throughout the final round, carding key birdies on the back nine but ultimately finishing just one stroke behind Montana State’s Maddie Montoya. With this finish, Maurice became only the second Hornet ever to place in the top 10 of the Big Sky Championship in all four of her seasons.

Ella Kraft also had a strong showing, tying for 14th with a final-round 71. She kicked off her round with four birdies in the first six holes, showcasing the talent and resilience that helped the team stay in control.

Impressive Depth from the Hornet Lineup

  • Darla May Dela Torre (Big Sky Freshman of the Year) tied for fourth overall at even-par 213.
  • Florencia Dufey, a late addition to the lineup, impressed in her Big Sky Championship debut by tying for sixth place at 214.
  • Tova Hatton rounded out the team’s top performances, tying for 11th with a 219 total after battling back with a strong back nine.

Sacramento State’s consistent play meant they maintained a large lead throughout the final day, extending their streak to nine consecutive rounds of leading the Big Sky Championship.

Next Stop: NCAA Regionals

By winning the Big Sky, Sacramento State earns an automatic berth to the NCAA Regionals, which will be held May 5–7 at six sites hosted by Arizona State, Oklahoma, Kentucky, Virginia, Texas Tech, and Ohio State. We can’t wait to see the Hornets carry this momentum onto the national stage!

Congratulations to the Sacramento State women’s golf team for another incredible milestone. All of us here at Haggin Oaks are so proud of what you’ve accomplished, good luck!
