PING G425 Hybrids Vs. Crossovers – Which Is Right For You?

As PING’s solution to the old school long irons and the more recent, and increasingly popular, hybrids, they released two new clubs; The PING G425 Hyrbid Line and the PING G425 Crossover Line

But which one is right for your golf game that will help you best hit straighter and farther shots from that long iron distance?

So, to help you understand the difference between these clubs and help you make the best decision, we put together a quick video breaking down each club and the differences between them, check it out here:

PING G425 Hybrids

In the G425 line, hybrids actually share two critical PING innovations with the fairway woods known as Facewrap Technology and Spinsistency which combine to deliver more distance and spin predictability while offering numerous options to ensure proper gapping throughout a golfer’s bag.

Facewrap Technology

With the Facewrap design, a thin, high-strength maraging steel face extends into the crown and sole to provide increased flexing for faster ball speeds that result in greater distance and high launching shots.

Spinsistency

To bring more consistent spin performance, the faces of the hybrids are engineered with a complex face curvature that modifies the roll profile, mainly low on the face where the loft decreases approximately 2.5Âș to normalize spin and increase ball speed for more distance.

Both player and PING Man robot testing revealed greatly improved distance results from Spinsistency, specifically low on the face, the most common miss-hit for fairway woods and hybrids.

High MOI, easy to align

A tungsten sole weight strategically positioned in each club increases the MOI in the stainless steel heads for added forgiveness. On the crown, a new 3-dot alignment feature provides golfers a visual cue to address the ball to best match their eye.

The PING G425 hybrids are a great game improvement option that are the perfect fit for beginner to intermediate golfers that more consistency and better performance from the long iron range.

These hybrids give the feel of hitting something similar to a fairway woods but with a more compact head and, of course, similar distances to the corresponding irons of the same number.

If you are a fan of hybrids already or are looking for as much game improvement as possible then this is for you.

G425 Crossover Overview

On the tee or off the ground, the G425 crossover is engineered to bring golfers gap-filling, long-iron-type performance by delivering more distance and green-finding forgiveness. The thinner face and internal geometry deliver the ball speeds to hit high-flying shots that land softly and closer to the hole. Forgiveness is supplied by the toe and hosel weights that expand the perimeter weighting to increase the MOI. It is further distinguished by its functional and resilient stealth hydropearl finish that helps repel moisture and improve performance from all conditions.

Tungsten Weighting

Extreme tungsten toe and hosel weights expand perimeter weighting to increase MOI 6.5% for greater forgiveness and accuracy.

Gapping Efficiency

Ultimately the PING G435 crossover irons serve a similar purpose to hybrids but with a few key differences. For example, they have a flat face as opposed to a rounded one that is often found on hybrids.

Additionally, they have that sleek look at address that some players like more than hybrids. These clubs come in a 2,3, and 4 iron option with the 2 crossover serving almost the same purpose as a driving iron.

These are going to be best for intermediate to advanced golfers who want more distance and straighter shots, but still with a bit more control and a more traditional look from address.
