The 2nd Sacramento Valley Senior Amateur (SVSA) at the classic Alister Mackenzie GC @ Haggin Oaks was hosted by The Sacramento Golf Council and the Haggin Oaks Team on Tuesday & Wednesday, June 21st & 22nd, 2022.
The SVSA is designed for the “Top Senior Amateur Golfers in the West” with the following flights.

2nd Sacramento Valley Senior Amateur Winners
Senior Championship Flight: Lawrence O’Neill (1st Place), Mark Morgan (T-2nd Place), Lance Bishop (T-2nd Place).
The Senior Flight was very competitive with 4 players within 2 strokes on the final nine holes. Brady Donoghue was in the lead for most of the back nine, but had two bogies in the last 4 holes. The first round leader, Lance Bishop, also hovered near the lead the entire back nine. Mark Morgan and Larry OâNeill both shot 68 the final round, with OâNeill carding a 32 on the back nine to claim the victory by one stroke with a total of 140 (4 under par).
Super Senior Championship Flight: Joey Ferrari (1st Place), Rich Gleghorn (T-2nd Place), Ron Johnson (T-2nd Place)
Little did Joey know that he had a 3 stoke lead coming into #16. After chipping in for eagle on #11, Joey took a commanding lead, but decided not to look at the live leaderboard until #18 tee. Instead, he decided just to play his regular game. With a 3 stroke lead on the 18th tee, the tournament was all but decided. Most of the Super Seniors all comment on how well Joey always plays at Haggin Oaks, dating back to his State Fair Championship days. With a winning score of 139 (5 under par), Joey is our 2022 Sac Valley Super Senior Champion.
Legends Championship Flight: Michael Davis (1st Place), Jim Ono (T-2nd Place), Bob Schoenherr (T-2nd Place), Joseph Rogers (T-2nd)
A big congratulations to Michael Davis, from El Dorado Hills, CA, the 2022 Sac Valley Senior âLegends Flightâ Champion with a score of 146 (2 over par)! Bob Schoenherr, Joseph Rogers and Jim Ono were chasing Michael for most of the second round, just 2 to 3 strokes behind. On #16, Michael had an uncharacteristic 4 putt to let the other players back into the Championship. Ultimately, Michael finished one stroke ahead of the 3 challengers by making par on #17 and #18.
