Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan over 70 years ago, John Seiter lived in Michigan most of his young life. He graduated from Grosse Pointe High in 1962 where he played/lettered on the golf team for 3 seasons. The golf seasons are short in Michigan.
John attended college at Western Michigan U in Kalamazoo. He played well enough to make the Mid-American All Conference team in 1965. Schools in the Mid-AM include Toledo, Marshall and Kent State although allegiances may have changed since then.
After working in a men’s retail store which was the Kalamazoo equivalent of Brooks Brothers, John interviewed with Xerox Corporation and got a field sales position in Grand Rapids, Michigan in late 1968 which developed into a 15 year sales/sales management career which ended here in Sacramento. He made a good living with a wife and two kids.
Since leaving Xerox, John has worked in the residential loan business and the furniture industry. Upon retiring, he applied and was hired at a local golf retail outlet and helped them open their Roseville store. Upon leaving there, he feels fortunate to have been approached by Steve Olsen and Bill Dixon to work part-time at the Haggin Oaks Golf Complex. He has worked here for over 3 years and is enjoying his position here. According to John, “I wouldn’t miss a day of it!”
While he is still a single digit handicap, John has made 5 hole-in-ones! His first was when he was 12 and was playing with his younger brother and his father’s friends. His second hole-in-one was also in Michigan. The other 3 were here in California at Cameron park, Campus Commons and Castle Oaks.
John is looking forward to a long, continuing stint here at Haggin Oaks and servicing his wonderful clientele.
