The keys to a successful golf swing are in sound fundamentals and a solid understanding of the human dynamic. Technical skills are often overstressed and I believe through learning and discovering the human skills in golf, such as body awareness, tempo, and balance, the technical side of the swing will naturally fall in sync.
Over twenty years ago, my godfather first introduced me to the game at Peacock Gap in San Rafael. He instilled a focus on developing a feel for the greens and rhythm for putting. The excitement from these early lessons and the joy of working with him inspired me from then on. Sinking putts has its rewards but often the memory of connecting with my godfather has made a deeper impression. The connections and memories we create as golfers are far richer than the scores we make as individuals.
After graduating from college I moved to Jackson Hole, Wyoming and spent five years working as an interpretive raft guide on the Snake River. Two rafting trips a day with twelve guests provided the opportunity to connect and share interests. The discussions would range from the ever-changing nature of water, ecology, and politics, to the park history from the different perspectives of the many people who have called Jackson Hole home. One rewarding aspect of the work was interacting with people from all walks of life while helping to create a rewarding experience as we rafted downstream.
My journey has taken me from working as a raft guide in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, assisting with immigration issues as a UN Observer Intern in New York City, to constructing custom homes in Northern California. Through these changes, I have continued to pursue golf as my primary focus.
I am excited to combine my joy for the game, with a passion to create a learning environment which includes the exploration of the golf swing and the hunger to continuously develop as a golfer. At the forefront of my coaching is a desire to keep the conversation flowing. At the same time, I appreciate the spirit of “paying it forward” and hope to equip younger students with the problem-solving skills and confidence to manage the dynamic and rewarding landscape of the links!
