Official donation and demonstration to take place Saturday, February 16th at 1pm at the Haggin Oaks Golf Course for the Saving Strokes Golf Fore Health program.
SACRAMENTO – Haggin Oaks golf course is set to receive a new state of the art adaptive golf cart this Saturday that is designed to aid in the rehabilitation and recovery of stroke survivors and other disabled golfers, the American Stroke Association and Haggin Oaks announced on February 14, 2013.
The golf cart, dubbed the Paramobile and donated by Anthony Netto of Stand Up and Play, is specially designed to position disabled golfers into a standing position so that they can take a confident swing at the ball.
For stroke survivors, it acts as an aid in their recovery both on the course and as part of their physical therapy. As they become stronger and stronger, they depend on the cart less and less.
Haggin Oaks intends to use the cart as part of their joint effort with the American Stroke Association called the Saving Strokes Golf Fore Health program, and for any golfers with disabilities who are interested in getting out on the course.
“The Saving Strokes Golf Fore Health program gives stroke survivors the opportunity to use golf as a rehabilitation tool,” said Kelli Corlett, programming director of junior & disabled golf for Haggin Oaks and volunteer for the American Stroke Association. “This state of the art cart is a tool that is invaluable to the program because it allows those who may not be capable of walking to participate without any limitations. Because of the program and adaptive cart, we see constant improvement from all golfers.”
Corlett also noted that many men and women use the cart, which is able to maneuver to all parts of the course, including the putting greens and bunkers.
Participants in the Saving Strokes Golf Fore Health program will meet weekly at the course between April and November and work on all elements of the game from putting to pitching to playing nine holes on the Haggin Oaks Arcade Creek golf course. Haggin Oaks has been working with the American Stroke Association’s Saving Strokes program since 2000.
The official dedication and demonstration will take place at Haggin Oaks Golf Complex located at 3645 Fulton Ave. in Sacramento from 1:00pm to 2:00pm.
