Frank LaRosa with ESPN 1320 and the TaylorMade R11 Driver

Frank LaRosa with Golf to Go on ESPN 1320 talks to Dave Kolarik with TaylorMade on the R11 Driver, TaylorMade’s most successful driver to date. The TaylorMade R11 is unique because of its flexibility and adaptability for the consumer. With a 3-step process, a golfer can greatly adjust their driver to fit their game. Or, bring your club into the golf shop and have your local golf professional make the adjustment for you.

Here are the three steps:

  1. Loft Adjustment – dictate launch angle and spin rate. Can be adjusted +/- a full degree of loft
  2. Face Angle – the adjustable sole-plate lets you make these changes. Can be adjusted open or closed 2 degrees.
  3. Directional Setting – the accompanying weights allow you to set up a draw bias, a fade bias or a neutral setting.

In the video, LaRosa asks Kolarik how the TaylorMade R11 Driver would be set up for a typical player who hits the ball to the right (draw) and a little too high.

Kolarik responded that the first step would be to set the loft so that the club had the right launch angle. The next step would be to set the face angle which is a directional setting, yet also takes into account a player’s preference so that they can look at what they like to see. Finally, a weight adjustment would be made for that draw bias. In this case, a heavy weight would be added to the heel to help swing the toe closed and bring the face into a square position at impact.
