RICHARD “Dick” McSHANE TENURED GOLF PROFESSIONAL

Dick McShane was born and raised in Massachusetts, where he began his interest in the game as a caddy at the age of 9.  Dick won several state wide junior tournaments while growing up. After completing high school he decided to join the United States Air Force.  He quickly became a team member of the USAF golf teams while stationed at Clark AFB in the Phillipine Islands and later at McClellan AFB in Sacramento.  After retiring from the Air Force, Dick joined the teaching staff at Haggin Oaks as an instructor in 1981 and has been an instructor ever since.  During that period of time he has attended countless golf schools, teaching workshops and PGA Teaching and Coaching Summits.  Some of the highlight workshops he has attended are:

• Correcting Common Problems
• Do we Teach a Method or to the Individual’s Differences?
• Teaching Juniors
• How does a fine junior player work towards attaining a college scholarship?

Dick is a certified club fitter for Ping, Titleist, Adams, Henry Griffitts, Tour Edge and Wilson Golf Club Manufacturer’s.  He is a man of many talents but has been heavily involved teaching Haggin Oaks Junior Camps.   He was instrumental in starting the “California Eagle” Program in 1985 which earned him a “Community Service Award” honor for his work with the Special Olympic Down’s Syndrome and Cerebral Palsey community.   Dick also teaches adult class lessons for the “Learning Exchange”, where he has taught over 6,000 students.  He can regularly be seen on the tee giving private lessons to men, women, seniors and juniors.  He has been recognized by Sacramento Magazine as one of the top 25 Teachers in Northern California and he is well known for his patience, understanding and friendly manner.  Even though he has a wealth of knowledge and experience, his philosophy is to keep golf instruction simple and easy to understand. He endeavors to create an atmosphere of fun and enjoyment.  He proudly works with each student to help them design a personal improvement program.
